Malaysia TIN applications: check existing records before registering

Separate the tax number, MyTax access and future return-filing tasks when preparing an application.

An orderly Malaysia tax-number review starts by checking whether a TIN already exists and why the applicant needs it. Registration and online-account access should not be treated as the same task.

Confirm status and the appropriate route

HASiL provides TIN registration and verification services through its systems, including MyTax and e-Daftar. Automatic registration applies to certain individuals, so a new application should not be assumed necessary for everyone. Choose the applicable route after checking the applicant’s circumstances.

Prepare a clear application file

  • Current identity documents and consistent personal details.
  • Any previous HASiL reference, tax number or correspondence.
  • The reason for registration and relevant employment or business information.
  • A working email address, contact details and any applicable representative authorization.

Keep number issuance and filing apart

Retain the registration response and note any further identity or online-access steps. Then review the person’s income-tax filing position, records and relevant deadlines separately. If the authority asks for more information, respond using the application reference rather than starting overlapping applications without checking their status.
